All About Serums! Beauty Benefits + How and When to Use Them
Most of us know what skin cleansers are and what they do. The same goes for moisturizers and facial masks. But what about serums? Where do they fit into a healthy skin care routine? And what benefits do they provide?
As it turns out, serums might just be the missing link in the traditional daily beauty ritual. To help you better understand their role in supporting healthy skin and the different formulas available, I put together a brief tutorial to answer some of the most common questions I hear. Check it out:
What are serums and what do they do?
Designed for a variety of different skin types, serums are skin care products formulated to deliver a highly concentrated dose of active ingredients to protect and preserve the appearance of beautiful skin. Lighter and thinner than cleansers or moisturizers, serums are designed to penetrate deeply into the skin—as opposed to moisturizers, for example, which only penetrate the top layer of skin.
Among the many types of serums you may see in stores and online are hydrating serums (which can boost the benefits of a daily moisturizer), antioxidant serums (designed to protect and preserve the appearance of healthy skin), serums for dry or oily skin, and even color-correcting and anti-aging serums.
How and when should you use serums?
It’s best to apply serums after cleansing and before moisturizing the skin. Some serums can also be used as a primer before applying makeup. Be sure the skin is completely dry, and apply a pearl-sized amount to the target area. (Remember, because serums contain a much higher concentration of active ingredients, a little goes a long way.) Gently massage the serum into the skin.
What are the differences between serums? With serums, as with many other skin care products, different formulas are developed to target different complexion needs. Here at Beauty By Yachilein , my team created a unique line of skin care serums to appeal to every customer.
My CC Serum is an antioxidant powerhouse formulated to improve the look of skin tone. The natural antioxidant properties of vitamin C help to nourish the skin and reduce the appearance of age spots, uneven tones, blemishes, and fine lines. Vitamin C also supports natural collagen production.
The Pro Repair Serum is an advanced hyaluronic acid serum made for revitalizing dehydrated skin. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that helps to lock in moisture and promote the appearance of younger-looking skin.
Finally, my Wrinkle Recovery Serum is a targeted wrinkle support serum. It contains retinol—the number one dermatologist-recommended treatment for aging skin. This star ingredient promotes skin renewal and enhances stimulation to visibly improve the appearance of firmness and elasticity.
